Akatsuki (暁; Literally meaning "Dawn" or "Daybreak") is a criminal organisation of S-Ranked Missing-nin; it was at large shortly before the Fourth Great Shinobi War and were the capital cause of its spark. The organization originally sought to retrieve all the Tailed Beasts in the world to ascertain world domination. Believed to have been disbanded after the war, the organization has once again resurfaced under the guise name of Ashura; a new mercenary band which, following the fourth war has been hired left and right, due to the relatively cheap cost and how occupied many of the greater nations are with the aftermath of the Fourth War and their own agenda.
Akatsuki at any given time is composed of no more than ten primary members, all of whom were S-rank criminals of their own respective villages, Members always work in teams of two and make use of their unique skills to the team's advantage. Team members must function very well or at least manage to accomplish their task even though they have a mutual problems with each other; each team is also constructed with specific goals and roles in mind, to better suit the needs of the organization.
Akatsuki is widespread, spanning several countries with agents in various places. This net of spies is inter-connected trough each of the individual members, many of which are in possession of large resources and influence.
Note: The members section has been heavily fucked with, please fix
Although some members joined Akatsuki to further their own goals, all are united in Akatsuki's ultimate goal of gaining world domination. Nagato has mentioned a three-step process to work their way towards this goal. First, they plan to obtain a large amount of money to support their organisation. Second, they plan to set up a mercenary group loyal only to Akatsuki. To build their reputation, they plan to accept any mission below the usual cost and operate off of the excess funds earned in the first part of their plan. Because there haven't been any wars in some time, the established shinobi villages couldn't afford to charge such low prices, leading the smaller countries to hire Akatsuki over the more expensive shinobi villages. They'd then begin to instigate civil wars and profit off of the chaos; making use of the greater Shinobi Villages somewhat shambled economy after the fourth war.
All in all, their goal remains largely the same except for the exclusion of the Tailed Beast

Like their previous incarnation, the reborn Akatsuki teams are put together in teams of two to exploit combined strengths for the organisation's goals to be met; but in this case, its more closely knit to the teams intended role - which is reffered to as the teams individual Portfolio.
- Portfolio: Espionage, Intel-Gathering, Scouting, Recruitment (Isamu), Healing (Isamu), Invasion (Marami)
The team which is described as having among the highest success rates but the poorest teamwork in the Akatsuki, given how both of the members loathe working together with someone else, preferring to handle things their own way. The leader of Akatsuki teamed them together due to how Marami was the only one at the time who had the means of countering Isamu's telepathic assaults; which the latter had previously used to incapacitate several of his former partners, turning them into babbling blobs, and hardly suitable for their line of work.
In battle though, they display a tremendous amount of synergy, Marami's animals in conjunction with Isamu's telepathy grants them complete omniscience of everything inside the scope of 15 meters, and extremely good understanding of anything beyond that scope; making ambushes, assassination attembs and the likes on both of them an almost guaranteed failure, and a lethal one at that, concidering the powers of the two individuals
The two men are known to split up at times, to tend to their personal needs and desires, this is described as their only real weakness; although even in such cases - they have a telepathic link allowing them to talk with one another over tremendous distances if need be.
